Mr. William D. “Billy” Wells, age 63 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, June 29, 2014.

Billy was born March 27, 1951 in Jefferson City, Mo. the son of Raymond P. and Kathryn Dickson Wells.

A life long resident of the Jefferson City area, Bill was a 1969 graduate of Jefferson City High School and attended the University of Missouri on a golf scholarship.

He was employed as the Executive Director with the Missouri Golf Assn. for seventeen years until his retirement in 2005. Billy was the overseer of the greatest expansion of the MGA tournament schedule in its over 100 year history of the organization.

Billy was a key player in the Jefferson City Jays state championship in golf in 1969, finishing second in the meet.

Survivors include: one sister, Susan Scheperle and her husband, Melvin, of Bradley, Illinois; and three nieces, Lindsay Wigsmoen and her husband, Chuck, Samantha Scheperle and Dana Scheperle, all of Bradley, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 1022 Tanner Bridge Road, Jefferson City, Mo. from 3:00 until 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
