WARRENSBURG, Mo. (June 9, 2024) — The Missouri Golf Association’s 24th annual Junior Match Play Championship is set to take place June 10-13 at Mules National Golf Club in Warrensburg.

This highly anticipated tournament is open to males and females between the ages of 14 and 18 who are affiliated with clubs or courses that are members of the Missouri Golf Association. This tournament is scored as a point event, and points will go toward the players’ end-of-the-year standings.

A significant addition this year is that the female winner of the Junior Match Play Championship will earn an AGA exemption from the USGA, granting her entry into the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. This new incentive is expected to enhance the competition and provide more opportunities for young female golfers.

Mules National Golf Club, located about an hour from downtown Kansas City, is a full-service, 18-hole public golf course owned and operated by the University of Central Missouri. The course, originally a 9-hole layout with sand greens, expanded to 18 holes with grass greens in 1972. A multi-million dollar renovation in 2015 transformed it into a premier golf spot in west-central Missouri, featuring an island green on the 18th hole. The course offers a challenging yet fair experience for golfers of all abilities, with unique hole layouts, white sand bunkers, zoysia fairways and USGA-spec bentgrass greens.

Today’s practice round set the stage for tomorrow’s first round of stroke play, which begins at 7 a.m. and continues with tee times until 2:10 p.m. All golfers will start from the first hole. The second round of stroke play, maintaining the same format, will be held on Tuesday.

The top 16 male and female golfers with the lowest scores will advance to the first round of match play on Wednesday morning. The top eight in each division will then compete in another round of match play on Wednesday afternoon. The four winners from this round will move on to the semifinals on Thursday morning, with the final match play round taking place Thursday afternoon to determine the champions.

Defending champion Jonathan Jordan (Rolla) returns this year to defend his title. Last year’s female champion Sienna Minor (Hannibal) will not compete in this year’s tournament.

Other notable competitors include last year’s finalists Anson Munzlinger (Columbia) and Page Bowman (Springfield), as well as semifinalists Noah Naugle (Nixa) and Kate Ryan (Columbia).
