Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship
The Missouri Golf Association hosted the seventh Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship this past week. The 2017 championship took place at the Lake Valley Golf & Country Club in Camdenton where 13 women competed for the Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship and Super Senior flight titles.
The first day of the championship was on Monday, June 10th where ladies played 18-holes. In the championship division, Kathy Glennon, a St. Albans native, took the lead, carding a 76 for the day. She tied with Tina Jones, from Grover, who also shot a 76. Pam Simpson placed third after the first day, shooting a 77. In the Super Senior Flight, Karen Shippy, from Platte City, shot the lowest of the day, carding an 88.
On day two in the championship round, Kathy Glennon claimed the lowest score again, with a 73. Dee Johnson, from Perryville, and Natalie Bird, from Carl Junction, tied for second with a 78. Karen Shippy shot the lowest again on day two of the Super Senior Flight with a 92.
Kathy Glennon took the 2017 Mid-Amateur Championship and Karen Shippy won the Super Senior Flight ! Congratulations, Kathy and Karen!

For the first time ever, the Missouri Golf Association is excited to host the 7th Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at the Lake Valley Golf & Country Club from June 27th to 28th.
The Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship began in July of 2011 at the Payne Stewart Golf Club in Branson where Lacy Shelton claimed the championship. Mindy Coyle, from Warrensburg, has taken the Women’s Mid-Amateur title now two of the six years. She won in both 2012 and 2013. The Lake Valley Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole championship course located near Camdenton and Osage Beach. The club has been in existence for over 40 years and welcomes many tournaments and other group outings all throughout the year. The course was designed in 1967, allowing all levels of golfers to enjoy their round.
The 2017 Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship tournament is open to all female golfers 25 and older in good standing with the association. To be eligible, one must own, rent or lease property in the state of Missouri or Johnson County, Kansas, prior to the first day of the tournament. It is required to have a current USGA Handicap Index (Hdcp/I) from an authorized USGA club.
This year’s tournament will kick off with a practice round on Monday, June 26th. The first day of competition will be Tuesday, June 27th with women playing 18 holes. Tee times will start at 8 A.M. Ladies will play another 18 holes on Wednesday, June 28th with an awards presentation to follow.
This is a 36-hole, stroke play competition. Any contestant may compete for the title of MGA Mid-Amateur Champion and play from the Championship Division course or forfeit the right to compete for the title of MGA Mid-Amateur Champion and play the Open Division course. A contestant with an Hdcp/I of 7.9 and below must compete in the Championship Division. When entering, a contestant must state whether she will compete in the Championship or Open Division. The two-day low gross score shall determine the Mid-Amateur champion. Ties for the champion shall be determined by a sudden death playoff beginning on a hole determined by the committee. All other ties shall be decided according to the USGA rules of Golf. Additionally, the Championship Division will not have flights, and caddies are allowed during all portions of the Championship.
To enter the championship, an application and fee must reach the MGA office in Jefferson City by the entry deadline of June 20th. An entry fee will be refunded, less a $20 administrative fee, if withdrawal occurs prior to the entry deadline or if the field is full on the first day of play. The entry fee for the tournament is $170, and includes championship rounds, range balls and cart fees. Cart fees are not included in the practice round.
