JUNIOR AMATEUR REVIEW DAY 1
by Ryan Ellis, MGA Boatwright Intern

BOYS AND GIRLS 12-13 AGE DIVISON

Located in Smithville, Missouri, Paradise Pointe Golf Complex is the site of the 2012 Missouri Junior Amateur Championship.  With beautiful conditions came great golf scores.  John Quitno, from Nevada,Missouri, posted a 74 and is our low round posted in the boys 12-13 age division.  Trailing by 4 shots, Jack Parker will be tested in his come back efforts in the final round.  Kylie Carnes, of Carterville, Missouri leads the girl’s 12-13 age division by shooting 97. The Outlaw course plays long and has a lot of danger on the majority of the course.

BOYS AND GIRLS 14-15 AGE DIVISION

The Outlaw course did not play easy today but some were able to make impressive efforts to post great scores.  Amanda Kim of O’Fallon, Missouri, has a demanding lead in the girl’s 14-15 division.  Kim fired an incredible score of 79 to take a 14 stroke lead over Samantha Farmer of Columbia, MOand Jenna Kosmatka of Jefferson City, MO who shot first round scores of 93.

The boys played The Posse course at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex and scored unbelievably well.  Tanner Owen leads the boys 14-15 and the overall 14-19 championship with a four under par 68.  Only two shots behind Preston Fleenor and Christopher Ferris posted rounds of 70.  With this tight of a race for the last day of the championship, it will take great golf from the field to hold their spot or have a chance of moving up in this incredibly strong field.

BOYS AND GIRLS 16-18 AGE DIVISION

In the girl’s 16-18 division, Taylor Black ofWarrensburg, Missouri posted an outstanding round of 77.  Black has a four stroke lead going into the final round of the championship with Alex Steinkamp of Savannah, Missouri and Mia Tovkach of Kansas City, Missouri following closely behind.  With the Outlaw course playing at 6,067 yards, it is a true challenge for all of the competitors.

The boys 16-18 field came in with strong scores as expected. With seven scores under par, Henry Simpson of Mission Hills,Kansas leads the 16-18 division with a two under par 70.  Only a stoke separates our leader from a six way tie at second place.  Tuesday’s final round will be extremely competitive and will definitely place a deserving winner; considering the closeness of this championship after the first day.

To Keep in Mind:  Boys 14-15 and Boys16-18 are also competing in an overall 14-18 championship.  This is also true for the Girls 14-15 and Girls 16-18.

JUNIOR AMATEUR REVIEW DAY 2
by Ryan Ellis, MGA Boatwright Intern

Warrensburg’s Bailey Woods (14 years old) won the Boys Junior Amateur Championship in a thrilling playoff with Mitchell Mathers fromLebanon.  Both played excellent golf, both posting a final 36 hole score – four under par total of 140.  The playoff was played on the eighteenth hole of the competition course.  On the first hole Bailey made birdie to Mitchell’s par which clinched him the championship.

“Everything was together, the course suits my game” Woods said in an interview with Dean Schneider, USGA P.J. Boatwright Intern.   JP Derksen ofLee’s Summitcame in third with a final score of 141.

With a field of 30 in the girls division Taylor Black (16 years old), also of Warrensburg, was able to edge out Amanda Kim of O’Fallon,Missouriby one shot with a two day total of 155.  Native grass and water lined the course making a picturesque yet difficult golfing venue.  The course played long and tough.  “I kept it in the fairway and I think that’s what gave me some good scores.” said Black. Excellent golf was played throughout the girls division as shown by our third place finisher.  Mia Tovkach ofKansas Citytook third place in the event with a two day total of 166.
