2016 Junior Season
Jefferson City, MO – July 28, 2016 — The Missouri Junior Golf Foundation has completed another successful season of junior golf. The Hieronymus Junior Series, Junior Match Play Championship, Junior Amateur Championship, and Hieronymus Junior Series Championship comprised this year’s competition schedule. In each event and championship, players would be awarded points with the top players being selected to represent the state of Missouri at the 2016 Southern States Junior Cup Matches in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Hieronymus Junior Series Tour had six events during the regular season of play. The inaugural event at the newly opened Ken Lanning Golf Center kicked-off the 2016 season. Jett Simmons would go on to set a new course with a round of one under par. Archer Schieders, Jackson Kreisman, and Ethan Kline would also go on to win their respective age divisions. On the girl’s side; Sophie Hinds, Greta Hinds, Skylar Nelson, and Sam Cornelius would win their individual age divisions.
The next event was the Hieronymus Junior Series season was played just two days later at Sedalia Country Club. In the 12-13 age bracket, Brooks Baldwin and Madison Moller would win in the boy’s and girl’s division. The winners in the 14-15 age division were Chase Venn and McKenna Rice. In the 16-18 division, Trey Stone and Haley Diel would go on to be crowned champions.
The next stop for the tour came at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville. Archer Schnieders and Madison Moller would both tally their second win of the season taking home first in the 10-11 division. In the 12-13 age division, Logan Pescaglia would win the boy’s side. Joseph Breen won the 14-15 Boy’s division, while Sami Swinford and Lexi Waters would tie for first in the Girl’s division. Impressive rounds would be turned in by the winners of the Boy’s and Girl’s 16-18 division, with Jett Simmons and Olivia Sobaski shooting rounds of 71 and 72 respectively.
Oak Hills Golf Center would play host to the fourth event of the Hieronymus Junior Series Tour. Archer Schnieders notched victory number three on the season after shooting a round of fifty. Young Kiser Pannier would also win the 12-13 Girl’s division, with Landon Breur winning in the same age division for the boy’s. Lane Plunkett and Kylah Gore would both take home victories in the 14-15 age divisions. Finally, Austin Hoerstkamp and Maggie Kohl would leave victorious by winning in the 16-18 age divisions.
The tour would then go on to make a stop in Eugene at Redfield Golf and Country Club. Rained shortened the event to just nine holes of play. Archer Schnieders continued his fine play winning for the fourth time in the 10-11 age division. Graham Johnson, Ethan Kline, and Gabe Trowbridge would win the remaining age divisions on the boy’s side. Madison Diel, Kylah Gore, and Samantha Cornelius would win in the girl’s divisions.
Finally, the regular season would conclude where it all started at the Ken Lanning Golf Center in Jefferson City. The Hinds brother and sister duo would both go on to win in the 10-11 age division. Madison Moller would win for the third time, and Drew Higgins would win the boy’s side in the 12-13 age group. Sami Swinford would win the 14-15 Girl’s division. Austin Hoerstkamp would win for the second time, and Samantha Cornelius would take home victory number four of the season, both winning the 16-18 age division.
After six regular season events, A.L. Gustin in Columbia would play host for the 2016 Hieronymus Junior Series Championship. Played over the course of two days, young competitors would battle it out to be crowned this season’s overall champion. Archer Schnieders would complete his fine season by winning for the fifth time in the 10-11 age division. Madison Moller would win for the fourth time in the 12-13 age division with Brooks Baldwin taking home the boy’s division of the same age. Evan Weaver and Sami Swinford left victorious both winning the 14-15 age divisions. Jett Simmons won for the third time of the year, finishing at one-under after two rounds of play. Amber Wilson also won in the 16-18 girl’s division.
The first championship event of the season was contested at the newly renovated Mules National Golf Club in Warrensburg, Missouri. The Junior Match Play Championship saw young boys and girls ages 14-18 compete in one round of stroke play for seeding, then match play for the remainder of the event.
In the girl’s bracket Olivia Sobaski would go on to defeat Samantha Cornelius 7&6 to claim the title. On the boy’s side, Tanner Owen would need twenty-two holes to defeat Brian Whitson, 1UP.
The Junior Amateur Championship was once again contested at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri. Heavy rains and lightning would delay the first round of competition, and the final round of competition would be completely cancelled after severe rain and lightning in the morning.
In the 12-13 Boy’s division, Eddie Fromm and Grant Beichley would tie for overall champion, both shooting rounds of 80. The 14-15 Girl’s division would see Taryn Bell take home the title after edging Megan Propeck by one shot. In the 14-15 Boy’s division, Dawson Meek and Ross Steelman would share the title, both young men firing rounds of 74.
In the Girl’s 16-18 division, Allison Bray shot a one-over par round of 73 to take home the overall title. In the Boy’s 16-18 division, Bennett Tiefenbrunn and Chris Obert would both shoot two-under to tie for the Boy’s Junior Amateur Championship title.
After a long season of play and awarding points at each and every spot on the tour, the members of the Southern States Cup Matches were chosen. The boy’s team consist of: Walker Kesterson, Jack Litzelfelner, Gabe Trowbridge, Brian Whitson, Austin Hoerstkamp, and Chris Obert. The girl’s team consist of: Lauren Plunkett, Amber Wilson, Samantha Cornelius, Emma Solovic, Olivia Sobaski, and Mikala Jungmeyer. Good luck to all players as they take on Mississippi, Arkansas, and Alabama in Little Rock, on August 3-5th.
