The 24th MWGA Senior Amateur Championship will be held at WingHaven Country Club on September 28-29 in O’Fallon, MO. Any female amateur who has reached the age of 50 as of September 28 residing in Missouri or Johnson County, KS are eligible to compete for the Championship title. The event is a 36-hole stroke play competition. The Championship Division will play from 5270 yards.
The past MWGA Senior Amateur Champions in the field are 11 time Champion Barb Berkmeyer of St. Louis 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2015. Stephany Powell of Springfield, 2012 Mary Ann Beattie of St. Louis 2009 and Vicki Long of Cape Girardeau, 1998.
Players that are competing in their first MWGA Senior Amateur are Kathy Glennon (50) of St. Albans and Tammy Harmon (52) of Kansas City. Glennon was runner-up at the MWGA Mid-Amateur, tied for 18th in the MWGA Amateur, she qualified and played great in the 2016 Fore State Team Championship and went on to qualify for her first USGA Senior event. She will be competing in the 2016 USGA Senior Amateur September 17-22 at Wellesley (Mass.) Country Club along with competitor Diane Chancellor of St. Albans. Harmon while new to MWGA events this season has had a great year. She was also part of the 2016 Fore State Team and competed and finished 4th in the MWGA Mid-Amateur Championship.
