KANSAS CITY, Mo. (September 18, 2024) – Don Chancey (St. Joseph) claimed victory in the 35th Annual Missouri Senior Amateur Championship at Blue Hills Country Club after a playoff against two-time champion Wayne Fredrick (Springfield).

Both players finished the two-day event tied at even par, 144, but Chancey secured his first Senior Amateur title by parring the first playoff hole while Fredrick bogeyed.

Chancey entered the final round with a two-stroke lead over Fredrick. After shooting 3-over, 75, Chancey found himself in a neck-and-neck race with Fredrick, who carded a 1-over, 73 for the day.

The momentum shifted on the 17th hole when Chancey bogeyed, giving Fredrick the lead heading into the final hole. However, an impressive approach shot and a clutch 4-foot birdie putt by Chancey on the 18th forced a playoff.

On the par-five 18th playoff hole, Fredrick’s approach went off the green into the rough, leading to a bogey, while Chancey stuck the green and made par to claim the title.

Reigning champion Sean McQueary (Springfield) finished in third place with a total score of 3-over, 147 after shooting a 1-over, 73 in the second round, improving by one stroke from his first-round performance. McQueary’s steady play, which included two birdies today, was enough to earn him a spot in the top three.

In the Super Senior Division, John Bailey (Nashville) held onto his lead from the first round despite the challenging conditions. Bailey shot 3-over, 75, the lowest score in the division for the second day, to finish with a total score of 2-over, 146.

Robert Trittler (Wentzville) took second place with a total score of 8-over, 152 after shooting 6-over, 78 today, while Kevin Handlan (Kansas City) claimed third with a total of 10-over, 154.

None of the top three Super Seniors managed to card a birdie in today’s round, reflecting the tough conditions on the course.

The Net Senior Division saw a shake-up as Steven Cameron (Miller) jumped from third place to first with a net score of 1-over, 73, bringing his total to 4-over, 148. Russ Fees (Dadeville), who led after the first round, finished in second place with a total score of 8-over, 152, while Terry Farmer (Warrensburg) and Tom Stone (Springfield) tied for third at 12-over, 156. Farmer had the most notable improvement, shooting 2-over, 74, eight strokes better than his first-round score, while Stone carded a 10-over, 82 in the final round.
