JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (August 25, 2024) – Adam Pfeiffer (Quincy) secured his third Missouri Mid-Amateur Championship title today with a standout performance at Jefferson City Country Club. Pfeiffer shot a bogey-free 7-under, 65 in the final round, finishing with a gross score of 9-under, 135.

By claiming his third Missouri Mid-Amateur Championship, Pfeiffer joins Skip Berkmeyer as one of the only two players to reach this milestone in the tournament’s history.

Pfeiffer began the final round in fifth place, but reduced his score by five strokes and won by two shots. His final round included seven birdies and a composed effort all day.

“I was just steady. A lot of fairways, a lot of greens,” Pfeiffer shared, reflecting on his performance. “The greens are just pure out here so you get a lot of 10, 15, 20-footers, and luckily a lot of them rolled in for me today.”

This course has proven to be a perfect fit for Pfeiffer’s game, as he has now claimed all three of his Mid-Amateur titles at Jefferson City Country Club.

“I love this course because it’s a course that you really don’t have to be a long hitter to play. It really suits my eyes for shot shaping,” Pfeiffer said. “I always seem to do well since I started playing here seven or eight years ago.”

Pfeiffer is a familiar face at many MGA events, including both the Missouri Amateur Championship and the Mid-Amateur Championship. His consistent participation in these tournaments underscore his commitment and connection to the association.

“The Missouri Golf Association puts on a series of events that is like no other,” Pfeiffer said. “It’s a very comfortable and competitive experience, and I really relish any opportunity to play.”

Behind Pfeiffer, Ryan Schuenke (Palmyra) finished in second place with a gross score of 7-under, 137. Schuenke, who was tied for first after the first round, shot 3-under, 69 today, including five birdies and just two bogeys. Chase Gafner (Springfield) took third place with a total score of 6-under, 138, following a 5-under, 67 in the final round, which included six birdies and only one bogey.

In the Senior Division, David Pfeil (Eureka) took home the win with a total gross score of 2-under, 142, backed by five birdies across the two rounds. Tim Holmes (Springfield), who had an impressive first round, finished second with a score of 1-under, 143 after a 3-over, 76 today. Holmes recorded six birdies and an eagle throughout the tournament. Paul Neeman (St. Louis) and Brian Haskell (St. Joseph) tied for third place with scores of 1-over, 145. Neeman shot 1-over, 73 today while Haskell posted a 3-over, 75.

In the Super-Senior Division, Tom Leonard (Leawood) emerged as the champion with a total gross score of 1-over, 145. Leonard shot even par, 72 in the first round and followed with a 1-over, 73 today, including five birdies and an eagle. Mike O’Neil (St. Louis) and Robert Trittler (Wentzville) finished tied for second place with total scores of 4-over, 148. O’Neil shot 2-over today, while Trittler carded a 3-over in the final round.

The MGA extends its thanks to Jefferson City Country Club for once again hosting this event, as they have done since 2018. Special appreciation goes out to the entire club staff, including Head Golf Professional Kevin Dunn and Grounds Superintendent Tim Kauffman, for their dedication and hard work in preparing the course and ensuring the success of the championship.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (August 24, 2024) — The first day of the 30th Mid-Amateur Championship & JCCC Memorial at Jefferson City Country Club was off to an exciting start, with players teeing off at 7:30 a.m. this morning. However, the tournament faced a weather delay due to rain and lightning at 10:20 a.m., halting play until 1:45 p.m. Despite the interruption, players returned to the course later in the day, setting the stage for a competitive weekend.

In the Mid-Amateur Championship Division, Ryan Schuenke (Palmyra) and Hunter Parrish (Columbia) lead the field, each posting a 4-under, 68. Schuenke’s impressive performance included seven birdies, while Parrish carded five birdies and just one bogey. Both golfers had strong showings at the Missouri Amateur Championship earlier this summer—Parrish reaching the round of 16 and Schuenke advancing to the quarterfinals. Both are eager to capture the Mid-Amateur title this weekend.

Aaron Clark (Rogersville) and Zach Vandolah (Kansas City) are tied for third place at 3-under, 69. Both players made five birdies during their rounds today. Close behind in fifth place are Bryan Wright (Stanberry) and two-time Mid-Amateur champion Adam Pfeiffer (Quincy), both finishing at 2-under, 70. Wright carded five birdies, while Pfeiffer recorded four birdies as he aims to add another title to his victories from 2020 and 2018.

In the Senior Division, Tim Holmes (Springfield) delivered a bogey-free round, firing a 5-under, 67 to take the lead. Holmes’ round featured five birdies as he set the pace in the division. David Pfeil (Eureka) trails in second place at 3-under, 69 after making four birdies today. Brian Haskell (St. Louis) currently sits in third with a 2-under, 70, thanks to three birdies and just one bogey.

Due to the late start after the weather delay, some groups in the Senior and Super-Senior divisions were unable to complete their rounds before sunset. In the Super-Senior Division, Tom Leonard (Leawood) leads at 1-under through 14 holes, with a clean card and one birdie on hole six. John McCulloch (Jefferson City) and Robert Trittler (Wentzville) are tied for second at 1-over; McCulloch is through 14 holes, while Trittler has completed 13 holes.

The Super-Senior groups will resume play tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m., starting from where they left off. The Championship Division will also tee off at 7:30 a.m. from hole one, setting the stage for another competitive day.

ABOUT MGA: The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri.

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club. Four years later, the invite-only Missouri Amateur was held in Kansas City at Evanston Club. 1911 marked the real organization of the MGA with Bonner Miller as Secretary and Executive Director. Ever since then, the MGA has striven to provide tournaments and spaces for Missouri golfers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game.
