MUSCLE SHOALS, Al. (August 1, 2024) – The final day of the Southern Junior Cup Matches at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Muscle Shoals, Alabama saw Missouri’s junior golfers face a challenging series of singles matches. Despite needing only five wins to clinch the tournament, the team encountered tough competition, ultimately tying for second place with Arkansas.
The singles matches commenced at 9:00 am, with each player giving their all to secure crucial points for Team Missouri. Kate Ryan fought hard and tied her match with Alabama’s Chloe Ruble. KC Lenox faced a tough opponent in Oklahoma’s Layne Ailshie, resulting in a 6 & 4 loss. Audrey Duvall was bested by Alabama’s Katelyn Foster, and Avery McLaughlin lost to Arkansas’ Yinyoe Yang. Reece Nimmo also faced a challenging match, losing to Oklahoma’s Reagan Plank.
Hanna Maschhoff secured a solid win against Arkansas’ Ada Peeples with a 4 & 3 victory. Quinn Thomas struggled against Alabama’s Jack Lowrey and was defeated 4 & 3. Anson Munzlinger lost a close match to Oklahoma’s Parker Payne, 2 & 1, while Ian Lambert faced a tough loss against Alabama’s Will Drake, 5 & 4.
Garrett McIntosh achieved a narrow but crucial victory against Arkansas’ Cohen Kinnard, winning 1 up. Ben Christian faced a challenging match and lost to Oklahoma’s Kale Fenton. Ethan Mustard finished the day on a high note for Missouri, winning his match against Oklahoma’s Terrance Kempson, 3 & 2.
Missouri earned 3.5 points from the singles matches, bringing their total to tie with Arkansas for second place. Alabama emerged as the overall winner with a score of 16.5 points, while Oklahoma finished in last place with 7.5 points.
The Missouri Golf Association congratulates all the players for their hard work and sportsmanship. Their dedication was clear throughout the competition, and they represented Missouri well during the competition.

The format for the day featured Four Ball Matches in the morning, followed by Alternate Shot Matches in the afternoon. Team Missouri ended the day leading the competition with a total of 8.5 points.
Tee times began at 8:00 a.m., with Team Missouri coming out strong. Ian Lambert & Avery McLaughlin secured a narrow victory against Arkansas’ Blane Burk & Yinyoe Yang, winning 1 up. Ben Christian & Audrey Duvall triumphed over Oklahoma’s Kale Flinton & Lily Reid with a solid 3 & 2 win. Garrett McIntosh & Kate Ryan battled to a tie with Alabama’s Jonathan Peters & Katelyn Foster. Quinn Thomas & KC Lenox fought hard but ultimately lost to Arkansas’ Cole Kirby & Liza McIlvoy 1 up. Ethan Mustard & Reece Nimmo dominated their match against Oklahoma’s Ryan McClanahan & Maggie Ruby, securing a 5 & 3 win. Anson Munzlinger & Hanna Maschhoff finished the morning with a 1 up victory against Alabama’s Will Drake & Chloe Ruble.
The afternoon session saw continued success for Team Missouri. Ian Lambert & Avery McLaughlin won their match against Oklahoma’s Parker Payne & Harlow Gregory with a 3 & 2 score. KC Lenox & Quinn Thomas faced a tough match, losing 4 & 3 to Alabama’s Clark Browne & Julie Waldo. Kate Ryan & Garrett McIntosh clinched a 2 up win against Arkansas’ Terrance Kempson & Anna Bell Gutierrez. Ben Christian & Audrey Duvall faced a challenging match, falling to Alabama’s Jack Lowrey & Courtney Grace 6 & 4. Anson Munzlinger & Hanna Maschhoff continued their strong performance with a 2 & 1 victory over Oklahoma’s Sammy Bonaobra & Elle Daniels. Ethan Mustard & Reece Nimmo capped off the day with a win against Arkansas’ Cohen Kinnard & Presley Stam.
With an impressive 8.5 points, Team Missouri leads the pack. Congratulations to all the players for their impressive performances and sportsmanship. Tomorrow’s competition will continue with singles matches beginning at 9 a.m.

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship.
