JOPLIN, Mo. (July 15, 2024) – The MGA hosted a Senior Series event today at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin. A total of 47 senior golfers competed in a round of stroke play on the par-72 course.
Twin Hills Golf & Country Club, with its rich history in Joplin, MO, opened in 1911 with just nine holes and 25 members. By 1921, the club had grown to 160 members, and by 1947 it expanded to a full 18-hole course. The course offers a variety of yardage ranges and four sets of tees, challenging golfers of all skill levels. Additionally, Twin Hills features an 8,500 square foot practice putting green, a short game practice area, and driving tee mats for off-season usage. Throughout the year, the club hosts several tournaments, golf clinics, and a Junior Golf Program starting in June.
Senior Series events are open to male golfers who are members of the MGA and are 50 years of age or older. Competitors are divided into flights based on their age as of April 22, 2024.
In the 50-54 Open division, Tod Rose (West Plains) claimed the top spot with a score of 3-over, 75.
Lowell Catron (Carthage) emerged victorious in the 55-59 Open division, finishing at even par, 72.
Steve Groom (Raytown) and David Rudd (Wildwood) tied for the lead in the 60-64 Open division, each shooting 2-over, 74.
Dennis Osborne of Ballwin and Brett Combs (Bradleyville) shared the top position in the 65-69 Open flight with scores of 3-over, 75.
David Newberry (Crossett) and Anthony Brown (St. Louis) both shot 8-over, 80 to tie for the lead in the 70+ Open flight.
The following net flights, which have handicap strokes deducted from final scores, also saw competitive play:
Eric Austin (Raymore) won the 50-58 Net flight with a score of 4-over, 76.
Bill Moseman (Blue Eye) earned first place in the 59-64 Net flight with an impressive 6-under, 66.
Dave Pingel (Branson West) recorded the lowest score in the 65-69 Net flight at 1-over-par, 73.
William Hubble (Camdenton) and Dana Elwell (Nixa) tied for the top spot in the 70-74 Net group, each shooting 6-over, 78.
Charles Kaiser (Jefferson City) claimed victory in the 75+ Net group, finishing with a score of 4-over, 76.
