FORT SMITH, Ar. (July 30, 2024) – The final day of the Women’s Fore State Championship concluded with Team Missouri finishing in third place with a total of 12 points. The competition featured singles matches in the morning, where Missouri secured seven points. Arkansas and Oklahoma tied for first place, while Kansas finished in fourth.
In the singles matches, Donna Whittaker won her match against Lori Harned of Oklahoma 2 & 1. Christie Blasi emerged victorious against Julie Oxendine of Arkansas 1 up, and Mindy Coyle triumphed over Kansas’ Jaci Weber 2 & 1. Kayla Pfitzner secured a win against Katy Winters of Kansas 3 & 2, and Tina Jones defeated Oklahoma’s Teresa DeLarzelere 5 & 4. Janis Clemens won her match against Arkansas’ Pam Evans 1 up, and Ellen Port clinched a victory against Jill Johnson of Oklahoma 4 & 3.
Sydney Parrish lost her match against Oklahoma’s Jenni Roller 10 & 8, and Kyleigh Pfitzner was defeated by Arkansas’ Maggie Huett 4 & 3. Stephany Powell lost her match to Kansas’ Luanne Engelmann 3 & 2, while Dee Johnson was defeated by Arkansas’ Melissa Holland 3 & 1. Denaye Spurling also faced a challenging match, losing to Kansas’ Julia Misemer 8 & 6.
With a strong performance in the singles matches, Missouri earned seven points, bringing their overall total to 12 points. This effort secured them third place, just behind Arkansas and Oklahoma, who tied for first place. Kansas finished in fourth place.

(July 29, 2024) – The first day of the Women’s Fore State Championship has wrapped up, with 12 representatives from the Missouri Golf Association competing against teams from Kansas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Missouri is currently tied for third place with Oklahoma, both teams earning a total of 5 points. Arkansas leads the competition with 8 points, followed by Kansas with 6 points.
Today’s competition included the completion of the first and second rounds. The morning round consisted of four-ball matches, where Missouri earned three points.
Stephany Powell and Donna Whittaker won their match 2 & 1 against Arkansas’ Mimi Evans and Pam Evans. Ellen Port and Dee Johnson secured a victory against Oklahoma’s Janet Miller and Emily Baber, winning 6 & 5. Additionally, Janis Clemens and Tina Jones defeated Kansas’ Terri Albers and Mary Larson with a score of 7 & 6. Other results from the morning round saw Kyleigh Pfitzner and Sydney Parrish losing to Arkansas’ Maggie Huett and Presli Webb 6 & 5. Kayla Pfitzner and Denaye Spurling lost to Oklahoma’s Natalie Blonien and Michaela Dierinzo 6 & 5. Christie Blasi and Mindy Coyle lost to Kansas’ Meghan Houtsma and Alex Buery 2 up.
The afternoon round consisted of foursome matches, where Missouri earned two additional points. Mindy Coyle and Christie Blasi won their match against Oklahoma’s Jill Johnson and Leigh Ann Fore 4 & 3. Tina Jones and Janis Clemens won against Oklahoma’s Lori Harned and Teresa DeLarzelere 6 & 5. Other results from the afternoon round included Donna Whittaker and Stephany Powell losing to Kansas’ Mary Larson and Luanne Engelmann 3 & 2. Denaye Spurling and Sydney Parrish lost to Kansas’ Kathy Winters and Briony Bayles 8 & 7. Ellen Port and Dee Johnson lost to Arkansas’ Julie Oxendine and Melissa Holland 1 up. Kayla Pfitzner and Kyleigh Pfitzner lost to Arkansas’ Maggie Huett and Presli Webb 1 up.
Missouri goes into the third and final round tomorrow tied for third place with 5 points. Arkansas leads with 8 points, Kansas is in second place with 6 points, and Oklahoma is tied with Missouri at 5 points.
Round three will feature singles matches and will commence tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. Golfers will be teeing off from both the first and tenth holes.

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship.
