FULTON, Mo. (May 15, 2024) – Brad Thielemier (Poplar Bluff) has become the second player to hold the title of MGA Senior Match Play Champion! The MGA held its 2nd annual Senior Match Play Championship this week from May 13-16 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Missouri, ending with today’s exciting final match.
Thielemier faced David Rudd (Wildwood) in the final 18-hole match. Thielemier started strong, taking the lead early and maintaining it throughout the match. By hole 9, he was up three, showing consistency and control throughout his game. His dominating performance on the front nine set a solid foundation for the rest of the match.
Thielemier’s momentum continued into the back nine as he extended his lead to 4 up on hole 13. Despite Rudd’s commendable effort to close the gap by winning hole 14, Thielemier remained confident in his game. Entering hole 15 with a 3 up advantage, Thielemier and Rudd both made par, resulting in a tie for that hole. This tie ensured Thielemier’s victory, as he maintained his 3 up lead to win the match.
Congratulations to both Thielemier and Rudd for their hard-fought match and impressive performances throughout the tournament! Their sportsmanship and competitive spirit reflect the best qualities of the game of golf.

FULTON, Mo. (May 14, 2024) – The first two rounds of match play took place today at the Missouri Golf Association’s second annual Senior Match Play Championship, held at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Missouri.
The morning began with our round of 32. We saw several players dominate their matches, with only one going to 18 holes. No. 31 seed Brad Thielemier (Poplar Bluff) and No. 14 seed Brian Haskell (St. Joseph) had two of the biggest wins of the round. Thielemeir pulled ahead to upset No. 2 seed Mike O’Neill (St. Louis) 6 & 5, and Haskell dominated his match to defeat No. 19 seed David Lehr (Republic) 7 & 6.
There was one match where the winner won 1 up: No. 1 seed Harry Roberts (St. Joseph) edged out a win over No. 32 seed Tony Brown (St. Louis) on hole 18 to earn a spot in the round of 16.
After the round of 32 matches concluded, the round of 16 began in the afternoon. There were several close matches, with three going to a playoff. Thielemier defeated No. 18 seed Tim Holmes (Springfield) in 20 holes, and No. 24 seed Greg Mazdra (Kirkwood) defeated No. 25 seed Chris Wager (Kirkwood) in 21 holes. Due to unplayable conditions, Roberts and No. 17 seed Bobby Godwin (Poplar Bluff) will finish their round with a playoff starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow, May 15.
Two more rounds of match play will take place tomorrow, May 15, with the Quarterfinal round in the morning and the Semifinal round in the afternoon.

FULTON, Mo. (May 13, 2024) – The Missouri Golf Association’s 2nd annual Senior Match Play Championship began today at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Missouri. A total of 56 players registered to compete in this event, and today they played a round of stroke play to qualify for the match play rounds.
The field of 56 was cut to the lowest 32 scorers. Harry Roberts (St. Joseph) finished with the lowest score at five under, 67. Mike O’Neill (St. Louis) had the second-lowest score at three under, 69. Wayne Fredrick (Springfield), Sean McQueary (Springfield) and Tod Rose (West Plains) tied for the third-lowest at one under, 71. The cut was +6.
Play will continue tomorrow, May 14, with the round of 32 matches held in the morning followed by the round of 16 in the afternoon.
