Final Recap

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Sept. 21, 2023) – The 31st annual Women’s Senior Amateur Championship concluded today at Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, and it once again saw Kathy Glennon (Wildwood) as its Senior Amateur Champion! Glennon won the Championship last year, and she had the lowest gross score out of 38 female golfers who competed in the two-day tournament.

Glennon finished with a winning score of 10 over, 154 (77, 77). Christie Blasi (Ozark) finished in second place at 16 over, 160 (80, 80) and Pam Simpson (Kansas City) came in third with a score of 17 over, 161 (82, 79).

Tina Jones (Wildwood) is this year’s Super Senior Champion! She finished with a score of 24 over, 168 (84, 84). Deirdre Robertson (Iberia) came in second at 36 over, 180 (96, 84), and Pam Knoll (Westphalia) and Janis Clemens (Sedalia) tied for third place, both shooting 37 over, 181.

The players were also broken up into age divisions.

Dee Johnson (Perryville) and Robyn Rossi (Hollister) tied for first place in the 50-54 flight, both shooting 20 over, 164. Deidre Parkinson (Columbia) placed third at 56 over, 200 (98, 102).

Glennon won the 55-59 division and Blasi placed second. Christine Tran (Columbia) took third at 41 over, 185 (93, 92).

Simpson was the winner of the 60-64 flight, and Stephany Powell (Springfield) took second place at 25 over, 169 (84, 85). Debra Sawyer (Jefferson City) earned third with a score of 29 over, 173 (91, 82).

Jones won the 65-69 flight, and Knoll and Clemens tied for second place.

Finally, Robertson was the winner in the 70+ division. Pat Hutton (Springfield) came in second place with a score of 47 over, 191 (96, 95) and Pat Jackson (Nixa) earned third at 61 over, 205 (102, 103).

Day 1 Recap

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Sept. 20, 2023) – Round one of the 31st annual Women’s Senior Amateur Championship concluded today at Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield. In total, 38 senior female golfers competed in various age divisions in a round of stroke play.

In this event, all players compete for the title of MGA Women’s Senior Amateur Champion, and players 65 or older will also compete for the title of MGA Women’s Super Senior Amateur Champion.

The round started with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Currently leading the pack for the title of Senior Amateur Champion is reigning champion Kathy Glennon (Wildwood) at five over, 77. Christie Blasi (Ozark) is sitting in second place with a score of eight over, 80, and Pam Simpson (Kansas City) is in third, shooting 10 over, 82, in the first round.

Tina Jones (Wildwood) is leading the Super Senior division with a score of 12 over, 84. Janis Clemens (Sedalia) is following in second at 18 over, 90, and Pam Knoll (Westphalia) is in third place, shooting 22 over, 94. 

Scores are also determined by division. In the 50-54 division, Robyn Rossi (Hollister) is in first at 11 over, 83. Dee Johnson (Perryville) is in second at 13 over, 83, and Deidre Parkinson (Columbia) is sitting in third with a score of 26 over, 98.

Glennon leads the 55-59 division at five over and Blasi is in second with a score of eight over. Christine Tran (Columbia) is in third place after shooting 21 over, 93.

In the 60-64 division, Simpson is the leader at 10 over. Stephany Powell (Springfield) shot 12 over, 84, for the day to sit in second, and Debra Sawyer (Jefferson City) is in third at 19 over, 91.

Jones, Clemens and Knoll are leading the 65-69 division. 

Finally, the 70+ division saw tie for first between Pat Hutton (Springfield) and Deirdre Robertson (Iberia), both of whom shot 24 over, 96. Pat Jackson (Nixa) is in third with a score of 30 over, 102.

Play will resume tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. After all players have finished 18 holes, the MGA will honor the winners at an awards luncheon.

ABOUT MGA:

The Missouri Golf Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf throughout the State of Missouri. The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club.
