Final Recap

O’FALLON, Mo. (July 19, 2023) – Brad Nurski from St. Joseph is this year’s Stroke Play Champion! Today, the Missouri Golf Association held its third and fourth rounds of the 26th annual Stroke Play Championship at WingHaven Country Club in O’Fallon, Missouri. Nurski had the lowest gross score out of 132 competitors at 12 under, 276. He has previously won the Stroke Play Championship in 2012, 2019 and 2022. 

Nurski took the lead over the rest of the field after the second round of play yesterday, and held it through the final two rounds today. He finished round one at three under par, 69, shot four under, 68, in round two, fired two under, 70, in round three, and finished the fourth and final round with a score of three under, 69, for a gross score of 12 under, 276. 

Nurski was the only player in the field to shoot under par in each of the four rounds. He is the only player to ever win the Stroke Play Championship four times and the only player to ever win it in back-to-back years.

Alex Locke (Springfield) is the runner-up with a gross score of 10 under, 278 (70, 74, 68, 66). He came into today even par, shooting 10 under in just today’s two rounds. Max Harres (Kirkwood) had the third lowest total score at five under, 283 (72, 72, 67, 72).

Day 2 Recap

O’FALLON, Mo. (July 18, 2023) – The MGA held the second round of the 26th annual Stroke Play Championship today at WingHaven Country Club in O’Fallon, Missouri. Each competitor played a second round of stroke play, and the field was cut to the lowest 50 scorers and ties.

Brad Nurski (St. Joseph) is currently sitting with the lowest gross score at seven under, 137 (69, 68). Three players are tied for second place in the standings with gross scores of six under, 138: University of Central Missouri golfer Brooks Baldwin (64, 74), Palmyra’s Ryan Schuenke (69, 69) and Arnold native Ryan Sullivan (71, 67). 

Two more rounds of stroke play will take place tomorrow, July 19, with 51 players competing for the title. After the fourth and final round, the player with the lowest gross score will be named the 26th Stroke Play Champion. Round three tee times will start at 7:30 a.m., with the fourth round to follow in the afternoon.

Day 1 Recap

O’FALLON, Mo. (July 17, 2023) – The first round of the 26th annual Stroke Play Championship took place today at WingHaven Country Club in O’Fallon, Missouri. There are 132 men competing for the champion title. The player with the lowest total score after four rounds of stroke play will be crowned the 26th Stroke Play Champion.

Brooks Baldwin (Warrensburg) is currently leading the field with a round one score of eight under, 64. Brad Nurski (St. Joseph) and Ryan Schuenke (Palmyra) are sitting tied for second, both shooting three under, 69, for the day. And there are three players following right behind tied for fourth place, each scoring two under, 70: Sam Migdal (St. Louis), Alex Locke (Springfield) and Will Postlethwaite (Maplewood). 

Tomorrow, the second round of stroke play will commence, and the field will be cut to the lowest 50 scorers. The round will begin with 7:30 a.m. tee times.

The Missouri Golf Association was started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Amateur Championship. Four founding clubs would be the ones in existence in St. Louis in those early years – St. Louis Country Club, Algonquin Golf Club, Glen Echo Golf Club and Normandie Golf Club.
