JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Brad Carpenter (Washington) is the champion of the 28th annual Mid-Amateur Championship held at Jefferson City Country Club. Carpenter competed alongside 62 other golfers today, Aug. 28, 2022, and had the lowest two-day score at seven under par, 137 (72, 65). He wasn’t close to the top of the leaderboard after round one, but he had an excellent round on day two to climb all the way to the top.
Kirk Viehl (Edwardsville) was declared the winner of the JCCC Memorial Tournament Senior Division at four under, 140 (70, 70).
Finally, Tom McHenry (Jefferson City) won the JCCC Memorial Tournament Super Senior Division at one over, 145 (70, 75).
The Mid-Amateur Championship and JCCC Memorial Tournament are 36 hole championships that are held simultaneously at JCCC, with the field split between the two events. The Mid-Amateur Championship includes male amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by the first day of the tournament. There are two divisions for the JCCC Memorial Tournament: Senior (golfers 50 years old or older) and Super Senior (golfers 65 years old or older).
In the Mid-Amateur Division, Matthew Wickham (Manchester) came in second place after shooting six under, 138 (71, 67). Four players tied for third place at four under, 140: Elliot Soyez (Goddard) (71, 69), Zachary Vandolah (Kansas City) (70, 70), Patrick Britt (St. Louis) (69, 71), and Corey Choate (Eureka) (68, 72).
In the JCCC Memorial Senior Division, two players followed Viehl and tied for second place at two under, 142: Tom Barry (St. Louis) (69, 73) and David Pfeil (Eureka) (69, 73).
Finally, Robert Trittler (Wentzville) took home second place in the JCCC Memorial Super Senior Division at five over after both rounds, for a total of 149 (77, 72). Don Kuehn (Kansas City) rounded out the podium in third with a total score of six over, 150 (76, 74).

The Mid-Amateur Championship and JCCC Memorial Tournament are 36 hole championships that are held simultaneously at JCCC, with the field split between the two events. The Mid-Amateur Championship includes male amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by the first day of the tournament. There are two divisions for the JCCC Memorial Tournament: Senior (golfers 50 years old or older) and Super Senior (golfers 65 years old or older).
After the first round, there are three players tied for first place in the Mid-Amateur Division at four under par, 68: Aaron Clark (Rogersville), Curtis Brokenbrow (St. Charles) and Corey Choate (Eureka). Three more players are right behind and tied for fourth place at three under, 69: Sean Brennan (Creve Coeur), Thomas Wuennenberg (St. Louis) and Patrick Britt (St. Louis). All 63 players in this division will play 18 more holes of stroke play tomorrow, Aug. 28 starting with 7:30 a.m. tee times.
The JCCC Memorial Senior Division is led by two players tied for first at three under, 69: Tom Barry (St. Louis) and David Pfeil (Eureka). Kirk Viehl (Edwardsville) rounds out the top three after round one with a score of two under, 70. This division has a total of 49 competitors.
Finally, in the JCCC Memorial Super Senior Division, Tom McHenry (Jefferson City) is leading the pack of eight golfers at two under, 70. Don Kuehn (Kansas City) is sitting in second place after shooting four over, 76, and Mark Addington (Overland Park), Robert Trittler (Wentzville) and Gerald Siemons (Jefferson City) are all tied for third at five over, 77.
Play will resume tomorrow with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. After all players have finished 18 holes, the winners will be named and awards will be given.
