JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The 114th Missouri Amateur Championship will be held at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach beginning on Tuesday, June 22. The week-long tournament will conclude with the final 36-hole match being played on Sunday, June 27.
Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this Nicklaus Signature golf course will hold the tournament for the first time. The course was rated the No. 4 “Best New Private Courses” by Golf Digest and has been a top-10 course in the state since it’s opening in 2000.
From the black tees, the course plays 7060 yards for a par-72. It offers players spectacular views of the Lake of the Ozarks on seven holes, including a spectacular 15th hole that moves downhill on a peninsula with wrap-around views of the water.
“The Missouri Golf Association is excited for the opportunity to conduct the 114th Missouri Amateur Championship at The Club at Porto Cima,” MGA executive director Scott Hovis said. “The course will offer a fantastic challenge for the players.”
The Amateur will feature a handful of past champions, including collegiates Nick Westrich (Farmington, 2020), who competes collegiately for Central Missouri and Walker Kesterson (Ashland, 2019), who competes for Missouri.
Other past champions competing at Porto Cima include three-time champion Brad Nurksi (St. Louis, 2010, ‘17, ‘18), Wayne Fredrick (Springfield, 1996), Tyler Shelton (Fairview, 1994) and Sam Migdal (St. Louis, 2016).
The youngest player in the field is 14-year old Jaxon Bailey (Monett). He is one of 38 players in the field under 20-years old. They will square off during stroke play with players at least double their seniors, including three participants over 60-years old.
The week will begin with two rounds of qualifying stroke play on Tuesday and Wednesday, after which the field will be cut from 153 to 64 players. Rounds 1 and 2 will be followed by the round of 64 match play on Thursday.
Two rounds will be conducted Friday and Saturday, respectively, with the semi-final round being held on Saturday afternoon. The final 36-hole match will be held on Sunday.
