The Southern State Junior Cup Matches takes place July 30th-31st at Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi. The MGA will compete against Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma in the Junior Cup Team Matches. The matches rotate each year between the 4 states. Arkansas hosted the 2012 followed by Mississippi in 2013. The teams will be comprised of 6 male and 6 female players from each state that meet the criteria established by each state association. The format of the tournament will be a four ball match played the first round, and the afternoon round will be an alternate shot match play and the third round will be singles match play. In four ball matches and alternate shot matches, the teams will consist of one (1) male and one (1) female on each team. The individual matches will be played male against male and female against female.
To represent Missouri on the girls’ side is Megan Keck, of Sedalia, MO. Megan is leading in points for the 2013 Hieronymus Junior Series Female Player of the Year. Filling the next spot is Taylor Hayes, of Lake Ozark, MO. Taylor is second in points for the year and is the winner of the 2013 Junior Collegiate Preview. Nichole Marquis, of Moberly, MO is third in points and fills the next spot on the team. Nichole has finished in the Top 3 in multiple Hieronymus Series events. Elizabeth Leath, of Chesterfield, MO is on the leader board for MGA Female Player of the Year and has finished well in every event she has played, her best finished was Runner-Up of the 2013 Junior Match Play Championship. Jefferson City golfer Brooke Thompson is tied for fourth in points on the Hieronymus Female Player of the Year. Jenna Kosmatka also from Jefferson City will represent the MGA. Jenna is in 7th place on the points standings for the 2013 MGA Female Player of the Year and was runner-up at the 2013 Junior Collegiate Preview.
For the boys, Ian Barnes, of Licking, MO will represent Missouri for the second year in row. Ian is leading in points for the 2013 Male Player of the Year. He has finished well in multiple events, winning 4 Hieronymus Series Events, finishing 3rd in the Junior Amateur Championship and Ken Lanning Championship. Next for the boys, Brett Windsor, of Boonville, MO. Brett is third in points standing for the year and won the 2013 Junior Collegiate Preview; he also finished as Runner-Up in the 2013 Junior Match Play Championship. Brothers, Taylor and Bailey Woods, of Warrensburg, MO take up the next spots on the team. Like Barnes, Bailey Woods returns to the Southern Cup Matches for a second year in a row. Jefferson City golfer, Tanner Elder’s great finishes at Oak Hill HJS Event and first place win at the 2013 Ken Lanning Championship awarded him a spot on the team. Mark Martin, of Rolla, MO fills the 6th spot with his second place finish at the 2013 Ken Lanning Championship.
