The 7th annual Father-Son Championship was held July 29th and 30th at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach.  The field was broken into three different flights based on ages of the players and each division played a different format throughout the tournament.

The Championship flight was split into four other flights based on handicaps; the flights were Watson, Stewart, Lanning, and Fricke.  All of these flights played six holes scramble, six holes alternate shot, and six holes best ball.  In the top Championship flight, the Watson flight, Greg and Justin Doss won with a seven under two day total of 137.  The Doss’ shot 71 on the first day and came back with an impressive 66 to take top honors in the Watson flight as well as overall winners out of all championship flights.  Buddy and Bobby Godwin were one stroke behind, at six under, to take second place after shooting consistent 69’s both rounds.  Three strokes off the leaders were Mitch and Hunter Parrish who shot 140, four under par, and came in third in the Watson flight.

John and Jared Jordan shot two over par 146 to win the Stewart flight.  The Jordan’s carded a two-under 70 during the final round to win by three strokes.  In a tie for second place were Jeff and Jordan Wilson and Bob and Tyler Brown, which both teams shot 74-75 to finish four strokes ahead of their next competitors.

In the Lanning flight, Chuck and Andy Greene held onto their first round lead to finish in first place.  The Greene’s shot 70-76 to win by three strokes.  Jim and Matt Ruck finished in second place in the Lanning flight by shooting a total of five over par 149.  In third place, six strokes off the leaders, were Rich and Brendan Keuss who shot 72-80 for a 152.

Mark and John Sievers in the Fricke flight shot 74 in the first round and held on to win by five strokes.  In second place were Larry Lucco and Will Greenwald who shot a consistent 80-81 and finished two strokes ahead of third place.  There was a three way tie for third place in the Fricke flight.  Jimmy and Kendall Jackson, Clark and Enrique Fuhlage, and Stafford and Hawk Swearingen all shot 163 totals to share third.

The Century flight was for teams with a combined age of 100 or more.  The format for this flight was nine holes scramble and nine holes best ball.  The team of Joe and Jeff Knaebel shot an impressive two day score of 133, eleven under par, to take top honors in the Century flight.  The Knaebel’s shot 67-66 to finish five strokes ahead of second place.  Coming in second were Mike and Carey Heitman who shot six under par 138.  Finishing at three under par 141 and good for third place were Keith and Kevin Fick.

The Super Senior flight is for teams with one team member is 70 years old or over.  These teams play 18 holes of scramble.  Jim and Mike Patton shot 66-70 to take first place.  One stroke back at seven under par 137 were Robin and Bobby Fisher who took second place.  Ron and Chris Cogdill finished in third place after shooting 66-73.
