Junior Collegiate Preview Tournament

Eagle Knoll Golf Course, Hartsburg

The first round of the 2013 Junior Collegiate Preview took place on Thursday, June 27th at Eagle Knoll Golf Club in Hartsburg, MO.  The weather was sunny and hot and the players were allowed to ride in carts because of the high heat index.

The heat didn’t keep away low scores on the boy’s side of the tournament.  Austin Buente, of Troy, Ill shot a one under 71 to lead the boys after the first day.  Right behind him are Brett Windsor from Boonville with an even par 72 and David Bennett from Branson at 73, one over par.

Taylor Hayes, of Lake Ozark, is leading the girls division.  Hayes is coming off of a win at the Hieronymous Series tournament at Kirksville and also won the HJS event at Cameron earlier this month.  Hayes shot 76, 4 over par, in the first round and is seven strokes ahead of second place Jenna Kosmatka, of Jefferson City.  Racheal Pearson from Fenton is in third after shooting 86.

After play, the players were invited to attend a seminar given by Rich Laing from the College Recruits organization.  The seminar covered everything high school golfers need to know about college golf including how to communicate with coaches and how to gain exposure.

Round two of the Collegiate Preview begins on Friday starting at 7:30.
